How to Arrange Artificial Plants

When your artificial plants arrive, they will have been packed tightly to protect it during delivery and will look very 'straight' when you take them out of the box. Take a few minutes to shape it properly before placing it on display. Gently bend the stems and work your way up, easing the stems outward and adjusting the leaves so they are slightly curved so they sit more naturally. The aim is to break up the straight uniform look and give it a more relaxed, lifelike form.

The pot you choose can also make a big difference to the overall look. Go for something that suits your room rather than treating it as an afterthought. If the plant seems a little top-heavy, you can add some weight to the bottom of the pot with sand, stones or pebbles that will help keep the plant stable and sitting correctly.

If your artificial plants are on stems, you can fix them into a block of floristry foam / oasis or a piece of polystyrene to keep it upright and secure. To make it feel more like a real plant, you can build up the base using sand, soil or fine gravel around the stem. This not only adds weight but also improves the visual finish, especially if the plant is in a decorative container.

Once everything is in place, cover any visible foam or fixings with a top layer such as moss or decorative stones that give a more believable result.

If you want your artificial plants to look as convincing as possible, it helps to quickly take a look at a picture of the real version of the plant. A quick image search will give you a guide for how the leaves should fall and how full or loose the shape should be.
